Krystal redesign

So here's my entry for Myu's Krystal redesign contest [link] . A great opportunity to draw a character I really like but seriously needed some work.

This is a drawn entry, but I've written a new backstory for her to make the redesign complete. (Désolé, ce n'est qu'en anglais, sinon cela prendrait trop de place)

Krystal is a blue-furred fox woman (gray fox species) with a dark blue mane (hair in Lylatian standarts).

Her ancestors come from the planet Cerinia, a civilized world struck by a terrible cataclysm one century before the Lylat Wars. By the time an evacuation ship able to fly into space was built, almost all the Cerinians already died. Finally the ship went off of the ground, leaving Cerinia forever. During many decades, the remaining Cerninans tried to survive in space, searching for a new home. In vain. Krystal was born around twenty years before the Lylat Wars. She was only a baby when the Cerinians got attacked by a warband. She was the only survivor, taken by one of the criminals, Randorn, who felt guilty after the slaughter.

Randorn raised Krystal and taught her how to pilot and survive. Though looking like a normal child (despite the blue fur), Krystal had an odd habit of seeing "forms" nobody else could see.

The blue vixen was a late teen when Randorn died, after telling her the truth on her past. Krystal then searched in the galaxy to discover her origins. But space is tremendously vast. Over the years, her research was always met with no answer and she started to lose hope. Her priority now was to find a shelter to find rest or some people to keep her company.

One day, Krystal responded to a distress signal on planet Sauria, where treacherous generals launched a coup d'état. She flew and fought valiantly, but she was clearly no match alone, against an entire army.

Then Starfox came, and their famous Arwings reversed the odds. The coup d'état failed, and peace was restored. Starfox's leader Fox McCloud, who witnessed Krystal fighting, proposed her to fly along the team. They had to find a new pilot to replace their veteran Peppy Hare, whose health couldn't allow him to pilot a fighter jet anymore.
She accepted.

With Starfox team, Krystal found the family she never had. She grew closer to the team, especially to Fox. Randorn shared many points with James McCloud, Fox's father. The two foxes started a very close relationship, Fox even took her as his wingmate, to train her for space combat. She also contributed to the team, providing maps for unregistered planets on Lylat. Thanks to the available technology, Krystal also discovered why she was seeing things no one else could see : she had UV vision, allowing her to see invisible targets in dogfights.

But now, old demons resurface as trouble strikes Lylat once again. One planet, Titania, is home of an acient civilation, now forgotten. Krystal has the feeling she can find her answers on the red planet, below the ion storms...
